The M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust is a Vancouver, Washington-based organization that has been in operation since 1975 and distributed more than $900 million in funds since its inception. Having recently been evaluated by the Center for Effective Philanthropy through a Comprehensive Assessment of Work, the Murdock Trust was found to have a significant positive impact on those organizations that receive funds.

A noteworthy finding of the scientific survey was that the Murdock Trust’s activities went well beyond providing financial resources to grantees. Its hands-on commitment extends to contributing actively in advisory capacities as nonprofits work toward attaining community- and grant-related goals.

Among the educational institutions that the Trust has supported through major grants are Washington State University, Reed College, the University of Portland, and the University of Oregon. Outside of the academic sphere, the Trust supports organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Union Gospel Mission, as well as the matching grant-enabled Oregon Impact Fund.
