Why a Community Garden?
Community gardens provide opportunities to:
Meet neighbors
Bring people together from diverse backgrounds
Provide inter-generational exposure to cultural traditions
Offer a cultural exchange with other gardeners
Produce a significant amount of food for the household
Allow people from diverse backgrounds to work side-by-side on common goals without speaking the same language
Allow families and individuals without land of their own the opportunity to produce food
Provide access to nutritionally rich foods that may otherwise be unavailable to low-income families and individuals
Serve as an outdoor classroom where youth can learn valuable skills, like those involving practical math, communication, responsibility and cooperation. They also provide the opportunity to learn about the importance of community, stewardship and environmental responsibility
