What do you mean by local search?

ANSWER:
When a customer searches on the web for “Pizza Kingsland GA” or “Window Tint Jacksonville Florida” you want your business name to come up quickly and the image to be professional. We feed these directories your information including pictures of your business, brands carried even a driving map!

What is the best way for a retail store to rank in a city that they are not located in?

ANSWER:
Organically speaking, content on your website is your best bet with this, as you can't rank on maps in different cities, because a pin is dropped at your address. However, you need to ask yourself why you would want to do this. It's really not best for the searcher. If I am looking for "Pizza White Plains NY," would I really want to see a list of "House of Pizza Manhattan NY"? Google will always be fighting you on this and trying to ensure you don’t rank. So, you could open a new location to rank in maps, or use paid ads or even an article on your website. However, our advice is to stay local.

Given the constant algorithm changes with search engines, is it more cost effective for local companies to use PPC campaigns and give up trying to rank locally?

ANSWER:
We would say no, in most cases. It completely depends on your business model and industry as well as your competition. But Google has launched Adwords Express+ that will ulimately drive everyone’s cost even higher in time with local ads. So, if you have a solid organic strategy in place compared to PPC, we think your organic side exponentially grows where as the only way to grow PPC is to spend more. The key is to stop looking at rankings as the purpose of your efforts and expect it as an outcome of good outreach.

How would you do local optimization for a business located inside another business?

ANSWER:
This is directly from Google Places Quality Guidelines:

"Some businesses may be located within a mall or a container store, which is a store that contains another business. If your business is within a container store or mall, and you'd like to include this information in your listing, specify the container store in parentheses in the business name field. For example, Starbucks (inside Safeway)."
