A former paratrooper in the United States Army, Nathan Escoto achieved the rank of specialist 4 and received two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in combat. In 1991, USA Today interviewed him for an article titled “Quietly Determined, Vets Begin the Healing,” in which he reflects on his experience in combat. After leaving the Army, Nathan Escoto attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he graduated with honors with a bachelor of arts in Latin American and Latino studies.
Currently a resident of Santa Cruz, Mr. Escoto enjoys an active lifestyle that includes training Brazilian jiu jitsu with instructor Master Claudio França and spending time outdoors with his wife and two children. An experienced mountain biker, he holds both Ride Guide and Skills Instructor credentials through the Bike Instructor Certification Program, and enjoys riding the numerous trails around Santa Cruz. He also serves as a brand ambassador for Kitsbow mountain biking apparel.
