Career in Asia as News Anchor and Film Producer

On the Brink: Uncharted Waters

Neela Eyunni received her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Denver, where she was a Cherrington Global scholar and Hornbeck scholar. After graduating, Neela Eyunni pursued a career in broadcast media.

Neela Eyunni's experience as a journalist led her to Asia, particularly China. In 2012, she became the first foreign reporter to become a part of CCTV News' reporting team. In 2013, she became the news anchor for China Central Television's flagship live news program, Asia Today.

After leaving CCTV in 2015, Neela Eyunni continued her focus on Asia, producing a documentary titled "On the Brink: Uncharted Waters," which sheds light on the controversial whale shark interactions happening in Oslob, a municipality located in Cebu, Philippines. The film looks at how to create a balance between conservation and industry in ecotourism. Created under Ms. Eyunni’s own company, Roja Earth Productions, the film aims to prompt national legislation that would regulate the country's marine ecotourism industry. The film went on to receive numerous awards, including the Conservation Award at the 2016 San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival. The documentary has also aired several times on National Geographic Channel Asia.
