Nishat Gupte lives and works in Wales, having grown up in the Welsh coastal town of Pwllheli. Born in 1990, Gupte is a professional poissonier, or Fish Chef, having gained experience in a number of professional kitchens. As a poisonnier, Gupte’s expertise is in fish. He is responsible for selecting the best fish for the restaurant, as well as all fish preparation and the cookery of fish dishes.
Outside of work, Gupte’s professional interest in fish continues. He is a skilled and passionate fisherman, catching fresh fish along the Welsh coastline that he prepares and cooks. Aquaculture is another of Gupte’s interests, which is also referred to as aquafarming. Aquaculture concerns itself with the farming of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants and algae in both freshwater and saltwater conditions.
Gupte continues to live in his hometown of Pwllheli, which is found in the northwest corner of Wales. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town is just 21 miles from Caernarfon and 13 miles from Porthmadog, and a large proportion of the its population speak Welsh as their first language.
Gupte spent his childhood hiking, mountain climbing, surfing, fishing, camping and white water rafting, and he still enjoys these same outdoor pursuits, sports and activities to this day.
A skilled and passionate musician, Gupte also plays the ukulele and is part of a local folk band that plays regular gigs in locations around Wales.
