An instigating force in the early 2000s growth of the organic food industry, Scott Lively led Dakota Beef as CEO and founder to be one of the first branded beef companies into major grocery. Lively established a reputation for quality organic grass-fed and humanely raised cattle. Scott Lively emphasized a humane approach to organic beef processing as well. This novel processing approach combined tradition and modern technology, and was featured in a 2007 New York Times article.
Mr. Lively is presently Managing Director of Rastelli Foods Group’s retail division where he brought his organic business in 2015. He previously guided Katama Foods as cofounder and CEO, up to its 2015 acquisition by Rastelli. The strategic acquisition of an organic beef-focused company reflected a focus on retail-ready organic products, as well as the sustainable foods sector in general. Lively guided the expansion of Rastelli's into a national wide retail processing and distribution power house located in Swedesboro NJ, in a new 50,000-square-foot facility focused on sustainable seafood and natural and organic meat.
Mr. Lively’s entrepreneurial activities extend to ownership of a Minor League baseball team the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. He is also highly active in promoting sustainable and organic farming practices and speaks regularly on the topic of organic and natural foods at universities and trade shows.
