A former rally racer, commercial real estate investor, and hotel executive, Selcuk Karamanoglu stands out as an accomplished sailor who has spent more than two decades exploring some of the most remote places on the planet. Among other notable journeys, he sailed from Maine across the Atlantic Ocean to his native country of Turkey, during which time he overcame obstacles such as a cracked boom and a malfunctioning autopilot system. During this trip, Selcuk Karamanoglu also successfully assisted the Greek Coast Guard with a search-and-rescue mission for two missing jet skiers in the Aegean Sea.
Outside of his personal sailing journeys, Selcuk Karamanoglu contributes to the larger sailing field by writing articles for Turkish sailing magazines such as Naviga and for publications produced by his brother’s sailing school. He has also served as the subject of numerous articles written by other sailing journalists.
Prior to devoting himself to sailing, Selcuk Karamanoglu stood out as a competitive rally racer who won numerous national, international, and local competitions both in Turkey and in North America. Concurrently, he led a successful real estate career that began at the age of 15 when his father passed away and left him and his brother a hotel in his native Turkey.
