Experienced OB/GYN Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, has compiled a long record of achievement that dates back to her years as an undergraduate. Studying microbiology at Louisiana State University, she excelled as a student, earning entry to biology and premedical honor societies on her way to graduating with her bachelor’s degree. Later, during her postgraduate training at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, stood out as her class’ chief resident. In addition, she garnered a certificate of excellence for achieving a 100 percent follow-up rate among a group of female patients from underserved backgrounds.
Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, subsequently operated her own women’s health practice in Plano, Texas. Maintaining a reputation as an honest, ethical physician, she often cared for women who traveled to her practice from more than 100 miles away. During this time, she received recognition as a leading OB/GYN from both local and national groups.
Today, Dr. Obey resides in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, where she draws on her experience to care for women at local hospitals. Committed to improving health outcomes for women from underserved backgrounds and correcting race-based health disparities, she also makes time to serve as a supervising physician at Northeast Valley Health Corporation, a nonprofit health care system with locations in the San Fernando Valley.
