A member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, Sonia Teas provides general counsel to Genus PLC, where her official duties include pre-litigation risk management, contract negotiation and execution, and selection and evaluation of outside counsel, among others. Before joining the company in 2011, Sonia Teas spent the previous three years completing her juris doctor, which she received from the University of Wisconsin. In the summer of 2009, she worked as a risk management legal intern for Washington Hospital Center (WHC) and gained relevant experience through observing a medical malpractice trial and discussing legal issues regarding pending lawsuits as part of the hospital's risk management committee.
Prior to pursuing her law degree, Sonia Teas worked three years with MedStar Research Institute in Washington, D.C., where she created a database training course and patient satisfaction reporting system for WHC and held membership with its Service Excellence Committee. She also researched grant opportunities and regularly analyzed the Intelligent Patient Record for Obstetrics. She began her career as a legal research assistant for the Chicago-based law firm Cooney and Conway in 2004.
Ms. Teas earned a bachelor's in sociology from Grinnell College, where she was a four-year member of the school's varsity soccer team and founded the Grinnell Ski and Snowboard Club. She continues to ski and play soccer in her spare time, and also enjoys sailing, hiking, and camping.
