After earning her bachelor of arts in biology magna cum laude from Rutgers University, Sophia Kotliar, MD, matriculated at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to secure her medical degree. She subsequently completed her anatomic and clinical pathology internship and residency through Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed a surgical pathology fellowship and cytopathology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston. While working as a pathologist at hospitals and medical centers in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, Dr. Sophia Kotliar completed clinical informatics Masters degree coursework through Oregon Health & Science University.
Having extensive experience in hospital laboratories at multiple mid-Atlantic institutions, Dr. Sophia Kotliar currently serves as the Medical Director of Ocean Medical Center- Hackensack Meridian Health of New Jersey. In her role at Hackensack Meridian Health, she has continued her clinical informatics focus participating with the Epic Electronic Health Record implementation on the organizational level. Recognition of her efforts in clinical informatics and her efforts in the implementation and use of the EPIC electronic health records system, has earned Dr. Kotliar a Board member role on the EPIC Beaker National Steering Board for EPIC Beaker related to laboratory functions. Her dedication to improving efficiencies in the application of Lean Six Sigma as well as Epic Beaker Single Piece Flow model is reflected in her leadership in laboratory redesign at several laboratories. Her dedication to quality in health care delivery is reflected in her work as the Delaware member to the College of American Pathologists' House of Delegates, and her service as a board member on the Delaware Board of Professional Regulation and Discipline.
