Over the course of his career, digital media innovator Stephen Blackwell has driven growth through strategic user engagement. He currently serves as a member of the board for human influence startup Rep, which he has also supported as an investor. Stephen Blackwell comes to this role with nearly a decade of experience in digital user experience innovation, having founded music and lifestyle company Death and Taxes in 2009.
Stephen Blackwell led Death and Taxes as its publisher for five years, during which time he facilitated the development of integrated live and digital experiences in music. After the company's 2014 sale to SpinMedia, he remained with the acquiring entity as CEO.
Mr. Blackwell took on leadership of SpinMedia at a challenging time for the organization. He quickly facilitated a turnaround, attending both to the production of new content and the revitalization of marketing and organizational structure. He led the company through its transition to a new form as Digital Media Group, and he continued to guide its development until its acquisition by the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group in 2016.
Named chief strategy officer of Billboard-Hollywood Reporter, Stephen Blackwell oversaw all sales and account management functions, as well as overall strategic development. He now focuses on his work with Rep while simultaneously pursuing such varied hobbies as jumping rope, sailing, and playing guitar.
