A summa cum laude recipient of a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts, Tara Neubert Kumaraswami subsequently earned her doctor of medicine from the university’s medical school. Dr. Tara Neubert Kumaraswami also completed a four-year obstetrics and gynecology residency there before pursuing a master’s degree in public health at the University of Illinois. In 2012, she finished a two-year fellowship in family planning at that university’s College of Medicine in Chicago while working as a family planning clinical instructor.
Dr. Kumaraswami has added to her instructing experience over the past seven years in her role as assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology back at her alma mater, the University of Massachusetts Medical School. This clinical position involves patient care but is centered on resident education. She is responsible for mentoring 20 residents per year and leads a student course in health care relating to the LGBTQ population. For her success in this area, she was awarded the Golden Apple Teaching Award from third-year medical students in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Supplementing her medical care and teaching experience, Dr. Tara Kumaraswami holds membership in professional organizations such as the Society of Family Planning, the American Medical Association, and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals.
