Teja Peltomaa

Volunteer Crisis Text Line Responder

Kids Help Phone

With a passion for assisting adolescents and tackling issues such as inequality and racism, Teja Peltomaa is studying for her bachelor of social work at Ryerson University in Toronto. Active communication as a means of building rapport and addressing conflict is among the relevant skills that Teja Peltomaa has developed via her formal education and community-service efforts.

Ms. Peltomaa’s volunteer experience has included service as a resource helper at Danielle’s Place, an eating-disorder support and resource center in Burlington. In this capacity, she collected and sorted a range of informative materials on eating disorders and ensured that they were easy to access. These resources served to promote awareness of eating-disorders throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

In her present volunteer work, Teja Peltomaa offers text-based crisis support at Kids Help Phone. She focuses on engaging in structured conversations to help people in emotional distress feel empowered, become calmer, and obtain a more positive perspective.
