Named in honor of Dr. Edwin A.D. Everest (1948-2008), after his passing in 2008, The Everest Foundation carries on his legacy by funding clinical research and supporting medical education/residency training around the world. Over the past decade, The Everest Foundation has donated millions of dollars to clinical research projects, medical resident placement, and other initiatives that further medical progress for underserved communities and humanity in general.
The organization has proven particularly adept at working to alleviate the medical residency “bottleneck.” By funding graduate medical education (GME) programs in partnership with teaching hospitals and institutions of higher learning, the foundation provides assistance to medical school graduates who cannot pursue appropriate postgraduate training due to extraordinarily low numbers of residency positions.
Everest’s GME outreach endeavors have supported the continuing education of award-winning physicians such as first-place West Virginia Geriatric Society research poster presenter Dr. Milad Modarresi. To maximize its impact on GME programs across the United States, the organization adheres to the core competencies of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
