Thompson Dean has served as the chief executive officer at Avista Capital Partners in New York City since 2005. In this position, he takes an active role in generating new, diverse opportunities for value at portfolio companies, particularly in area of healthcare middle market control buyout and growth investments. Under the aegis of Thompson Dean and the skilled Avista Investment Partners team, the company utilizes investment tactics that draw on sophisticated financial blending techniques, innovative operating perspectives, and foundational business management processes.
Before his time at Avista, Thompson Dean spent a decade as a managing partner with DLJ Merchant Banking Partners. In this role, he assumed management responsibilities for three distinct banking entities, as well as DLJ Growth Capital Partners, and a position of each organization’s investment committee.
Mr. Dean studied economics and foreign affairs at the University of Virginia, graduating as an Echols Scholar with a bachelor of arts. He subsequently completed a master of business administration program at the Harvard Business School in Cambridge, this time graduating with high distinction as a Baker Scholar.
